Big Girl Blitz by Danielle Allen

Book cover of "Big Girl Blitz" by Danielle Allen featuring a couple with football theme.

Melanated Review and Recap

Big Girl Blitz was the perfect ending to the Curve series. Chef’s kiss! 👏🏾 This book had everything I loved about the series — a beautiful love story, complex characters, emotional depth, and reminders about what it means to truly live and love yourself.

From the moment Jazmyn and Lamar met, their attraction was undeniable. The chemistry was there immediately, but what I appreciated most was the way Lamar pursued her. Jazmyn had every reason to be hesitant based on her past experiences, but Lamar’s persistence, respect, and intentionality showed her that love could look different. He didn’t just want her — he showed her that he was willing to be patient and create a safe space for her to trust him.

One of the heaviest parts of this story was walking alongside Jazmyn and Aunt Addy through such an emotional journey. Losing someone you love is incredibly difficult, but being present as someone transitions through the end of their life is a painful privilege. Danielle Allen captured the complexity of grief, love, and letting go in a way that felt deeply human.

Jazmyn’s struggle with perfection was also such an important part of her character. The expectations instilled in her by her parents impacted so much of how she moved through life — the choices she made, the risks she avoided, and the way she viewed herself. Watching her confront those beliefs and learn to embrace who she truly was was one of the most meaningful parts of the story.

There were so many lessons woven throughout this book:

  1. Live. You only get one life, so live it. And more importantly, live it for you.
  2. Perfect isn’t real. The pursuit of perfection can keep you from experiencing the beauty of the life right in front of you.
  3. The people who love you will always want the best for you. Sometimes love comes imperfectly, but the intention behind it matters.
  4. Follow your heart. Sometimes the biggest risks lead to the most beautiful rewards.

Overall, Big Girl Blitz was a beautiful conclusion to the Curve series. Danielle Allen created a story that reminded me that love is not about being flawless, having everything figured out, or meeting some imaginary timeline. It’s about being seen, accepted, and choosing to embrace the life you’ve been given.

A truly fitting finale for a series that celebrates confidence, love, and women taking up space exactly as they are.
